Abstract

This study was undertaken to examine the physical fitness of Kabaddi and Kho-Kho players of University level. Four physical fitness components viz., Endurance, speed, strength and flexibility were investigated on 200 male players (100 from each game) of four Universities of Haryana viz., Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Guru Jambeshwar University, Hissar, and Ch. Devi Lal University, Sirsa. Data was analysed by standard tools with the help of physical education teachers, coaches and expert players and lab technicians. The Endurance, Speed and Flexibility Kho-Kho players was found to be better the Kabaddi players, however players of both the games had similar strength. This is because in Kho-Kho, the players vigorous run between the chasers for 9 minutes and there are frequent sit and run sessions whereas, in Kabaddi, players have a vigorous session of raid in opponent court for only 35 seconds. The study revealed that Kho-Kho players were physically more fit compared to Kabaddi players. The results of investigation are resourceful information for use in training modules by coaches and physical trainers for enhancing performance of the players of the two games.
