CHANGING ASPECTS OF MARRIAGE SYSTEM IN VILLAGES OF RAMANAGARA DISTRICT

Abstract

Marriage system in rural India is transforming. Rules of marriage are not too rigid in country side today. Preference of mate selection, kind of marriage, marriage venue, food and dress code etc are transforming. Though villagers are not accepting inter-religion marriage, love marriage within the caste is not a taboo today. Marriage ceremony is getting modern touch day by day and expenditure on marriage ceremony is increasing. The ritual prime marriage ceremonies are converting into dignity oriented ceremonies in modern days. This study is conducted in eight selected villages of Ramanagara district of Karnataka state located in southern part of India.
