POLITICAL EMPOWERMENT AND PARTICIPATION OF WOMEN IN KENYA

Abstract

This paper analyzes the political empowerment of women in Kenya. The empowerment of women has become one of the most important concerns of the present society. Men and women are two basic components of our society; women constitute more than 50 percent of the population in all over the world. Women have made immense contribution in various sector although; their socio-economic status is very low and they are dominated by the male member of the family and also in the decision making procedure the women are facing dominance by the patriarchal society. It is necessary to secure women in society and taught them to choose their future and for the development of democracy, the role of women in politics is very important thing. This will not only encourage them but also pave the way for their socio-economic empowerment. The equal participation of women in society will be the solution of many troubles in society. Women’s political participation gives an indication that how women are treated in society in any nation. The improvement of the any nation also depends on the equal representation of men and women in the society. The paper mainly focuses on political participation of women in Kenya and the challenges faced by women in decision making process.
