Digital consumerism in India witnessed a paradigm shift in 2017. With demonetization implemented in November 2016, the year 2017 witnessed massive changes in the way consumers used digital platforms for retailing, consumer foodservice, transportation, bookings for entertainment and lodging, and bill payments. The government of India has been pushing for digitalization of the country in various ways. Digitalization is a major trend impacting consumers and businesses. The impact will be huge as products, services, processes and business models are becoming more digital and digitally optimized. Companies must learn to understand and lead digital customers and markets. Companies need to engage meaningful conversations with customers when and where it is relevant to customer. Companies need to create digital strategy and digital customer engagement models based on business case and solid justification to become consistently successful in digital. Digitalization is also a great opportunity for renewal and value creation.
