Abstract

India, which is well-known for its dairy products, is the largest producer of milk, second only to United States(in terms of cow milk). The country produces nearly 50 to 60 million tonnes of milk every year and currently contributes around 9.5 percent of the global milk production. India is also the largest consumer of milk in the world. The integrated co-operative system of milk collection, transportation, processing, and distribution is responsible for the large-scale production of milk in the country. In 2016-2017, India produced a whopping 1,65,404 thousand tonnes of milk.
