Abstract

Bapsi Sidhwa is a realist and critic of society as she deals with the issues of social evils like dowry system, child marriage, humiliation of widows etc. Her novel The Pakistani Bride presents a number of issues faced by women in Pakistan. Women are not given the significant place in society and are exploited by patriarchal traditions. She confronts with the domineering patriarchal system of Pakistani literature by providing an alternative image of a strong and confident female. Her novels The Pakistani Bride, Ice Candy Man, An American Brat, Water. The Crow Eaters deal with real situations. In The Crow Eaters, She reveals Parsee customs and rituals in a realistic way and deals with the traditional story of the Parsee’s arrival from Iran to India in the eighth century. Ice Candy Man reveals the horrors of partition and An American Brat deals with her experiences in America.
