AGRICULTURE SECTOR IN HARYANA: PERFORMANCE EVALUATION WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO POST REFORM PERIOD

Abstract

The Economy of Haryana is going on right path of economic growth during the recent year. According to quack estimates, the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) at factor cost at constant price (20040-05) is estimated to be Rs. 151691.82 crore for 2009-10 as against the revised estimates of Rs. 137964.81crore for 2008-09 and growth rate recorded at 9.9 percent in the year of 2009-10 . The agriculture sector is a significant integral part of Haryana’s economy. Haryana’s economy largely depends on agriculture sector while other sectors like manufacturing and service sector are prevailing in the economy. The state has a number of investment and business opportunities. Nowadays, the state is rapidly growing in infrastructure, industries, services, BPO etc. Gurgaon region is the core area of Haryana state which has vast number of job opportunities. The state of Haryana has also location advantage for setting up of industries in terms of its proximity to the National Capital Region (NCR). Within the state, Rohtak, Sonepat, Gurgaon and Faridabad have a special potential for development. Furthermore, the state is also going on right path of education. Literacy rate of male and female in Haryana has been increasing continuously since 1961. According to 2001 Census, state’s average (male & female) literacy rate was 67.91.
