Abstract
The paper studies the literature to find out the process through which autonomy impacts work outcomes. Self-efficacy mediates the relationship between job autonomy and job performance and job autonomy and job satisfaction. Further intrinsic motivation has served as a moderator between job autonomy and job performance. Task interdependence influences the relationship between individual and team autonomy. Job autonomy and job performance is mediated by self-monitoring as well. Findings of the literature review suggest that; self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation, task interdependence and self-monitoring mediate and moderate relationship between job autonomy and work outcomes; while
Researchers found that Self-efficacy does not mediate relationship between job autonomy and job stress, autonomy and teamwork KSAs interaction in predicting performance and strain was not supported and that degree of autonomy does not mediate the relationship between levels of autonomy, nature of personality and job performance
