Abstract

One of the important aspects of asset liability management involves assessment, measuring, monitoring and controlling risk. The focus of ALM is to manage risks in such a way that in short run the net interest income stabilizes and in long run the economic value of the bank improves. So the banks need effective risk management practices . Fifteen banks were selected on the basis of their average asset base, under the three banks categories for the purpose of this study. The analysis of responses on various aspects of risk management practices in banks indicated that most of the banks covered under study have separate risk policies having clearing defined aims and objectives specifically in higher percentage of foreign banks.
