Abstract

The waterways have traditionally been the high ways of trade generating the prosperity throughout the ages. From ancient times, the Mediterranean Sea facilitated the exchanges that created and nurtured the advanced civilization of Greece and Rome. It further carried the Crusaders abroad and enriched Venice and Genoa. In the medieval ages the Atlantic became the great highway of trade that fed the explosive growth of North America, and recently trade across the Pacific has gained enormous importance. But the Indian Ocean is replacing it this maritime and commercial activities and also in the strategic rivalry that usually accompanies the generation of wealth and prosperity. Nearly half of the entire seaborne commerce of the world moves across the waters of the Indian Ocean
