STEREOTYPE ACCESSIBILITY AND SOCIAL PARTICIPATION AMONG STUDENTS OF DIFFERENT SOCIAL CATEGORIES

Abstract

The study investigated the relationship between stereotypes accessibility and social participation and how stereotype accessibility influences social participation among the students of different social category. Total 300 male and female P. G. students accordingly 100 from General Category, 100 from Other Backward Category and 100 from Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe category from various department of D.D.U. Gorakhpur University, participated in this study. A stereotype accessibility task utilized to measure stereotype accessibility and social participation scale (SPS) used to measure social participation. First of all a correlation analysis was performed to know the relationship between stereotype accessibility and social participation, and further a stepwise multiple regression analysis was also performed to know the role of stereotype accessibility in social participation. Results revealed that stereotype accessibility and social participation have a significant correlation. It is also shown that when people have positive stereotypes accessibility it increased their social participation and when people have negative stereotype accessibility it decreased their social participation.
