Education is very important for an individual's success in life. Education provides pupils teaching skills that prepare them physically, mentally and socially for the world of work in later life. Education is generally seen as the foundation of society which brings economic wealth, social prosperity and political stability. As the world moves towards an info-centric society India too cannot afford to remain behind as a non-competitive society. India too is working towards its vision of becoming a competitive knowledge economy. The present paper is an attempt to analyze various sociological perspectives on education and sociological basis of education in India. The paper would like to conclude that the society will be info-education centric with regards to content, network, delivery and outcome. Our institutions and education planners, policies, strategists are working towards creation of institutions which will not just provide industrial workers but cutting edge technologists.
