THE ROLE OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN ELECTIONS IN INDIA

Abstract

Since the success of the use of social media campaign by Barack Obama during the 2008 U.S. presidential elections social media has gained a lot of prominence and buzz in the field of political communication. Barack Obama’s “Yes We Can” campaigns has been said to be the first of the election campaigns that has actually seen social media play a large part in, so much so that it affected the turn out and even played a role in determining his win in the presidential elections.
