In a country like India, where around 60% of the population is dependent on agriculture and related activities for sustainance, 35-40% of the food get perished/destroyed due to poor facilities of storage, shortage of cold-houses, poor cold-chain management, poor infrastructure for transportation etc. The global processed food industry is estimated to be valued around US $3.6 trillion and accounts for 3/4 of the global food sales. In India, Only about 2% of the fruits and vegetables are processed, which is much lower to the countries like USA(65%), Philippines(78%) and China(23)%.
