Abstract

This paper’s aim to understand the various facets of Dalit literature incorporating issues pertaining tolabour, body andreligion. The paper examines three novels Shivaram Karanth’s 1933 novel Chomana Dudi, Thakazi Sivasankara Pillai’s 1956 novel Chemmeen and U.R. Anantha Murthy’s 1965 novel Samskara. Through these novels we can map out the problematic debates of the lower caste community especially dealing with the female gender. Thus this paper’s endeavour to understand the dilemma of the female gender already trapped in a patriarchal society and their urge to break free from conventional rules through labour. Issues of perceiving the lower caste female as mere sexual object is also explored through the myths that have constructed them.
