Abstract

Existentialism is not only one of the most influential philosophies in the twentieth century, but it is also one of the most controversial of all. There is a lack of unanimity among philosophers, thinkers and critics as to what it stands for in a clear-cut way 1. It can be said to be the fountainhead of several revolts in the past against traditional philosophy of living. It can be said to have existed ever since man came face to face with his own frailty and the meaninglessness of his existence.2
