The Catcher in the Rye (1951) was written by J.D. Salinger. The purpose of this paper is this paper is to analyze the psychological problems of Holden Caulfield which he confronts on the journey from childhood to adulthood. These psychological problems include Holden’s protection of innocence, his disgust for the phoniness of the adult world, separation, and his alienation from the society. This paper also shows that these adolescent problems produce a great effect on him. This effect has aroused a negative attitude in his behaviour for his surroundings.
