A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE ATTITUDE BETWEEN THE HIGHER SECONDARY 1ST YEAR STUDENTS OF GOVERNMENT AIDED HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND PROVINCIALISED COLLEGES OF ASSAM REGARDING ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM

Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to examine the attitude of higher secondary students of XIth Class towards the environmental education curriculum. Environmental education is an important and indispensible subject which helps the students to understand about the surrounding environment. But it has seen that this subject does not get adequate importance like other subjects in the Higher Secondary 1st year level. Keeping this view in mind the investigator has conducted a study to know the attitude of the boys and girls students, attitude of the higher secondary school students and college students towards this subject. The investigator has selected all govt. aided Higher Secondary Schools and provincialised colleges of Sivasagar district of Assam both from Arts and Science streams and from rural and urban areas. Total 310 students were selected as sample by adopting stratified random sampling technique. Out of 310 students,150 are boys and 160 are girls, 190 are higher secondary school students and 120 are college students. The data were collected with the help of an Environmental Education Attitude Scale for students which was developed by the investigator having the reliability 0.86. The collected data were analysed and interpreted by using statistical techniques like frequency percentage and Chi-Square test. Graphical representation of data also made. The findings of the study might be helpful for the teachers, educators and policy makers etc. to take necessary steps.
