A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF BANKS

Abstract

The Narasimham Committee was established under former RBI Governor M. Narasimham in August 1991 to look into all facet of the financial system in India. It indentified Non Performing Asset as one of the possible main causes of malfunctioning of the public sector banks. ‘In India the Net NPA ratio increased from 3.6% to 6.1% for PSBs, from 0.9% to 1.3% for PVBs and from 0.5% to 0.8% for foreign banks between September 2015 and March 2016'. ‘In Pauri Garhwal Gross NPA of all banks have decreased from 12,973.39 lacs in 2014-15 to 407.65 lacs in 2015-16 and GNPA ratio of all banks have decreased from 7.36% in 2014-15 to .28% in 2015-16. In public sector banks GNPA ratio decreased from 2.81% to .48% and in private sector banks decreased from 1.13% to .07% between March 2015 and 2016.’2 ‘Credit Deposit ratio decreased from 36.22% in 2014-15 to 25% in 2015-16 in district Pauri.
