Abstract

ICT is the major factor causing changes in the field of library and information science by which people or users can access, communicate, retrieve, use and disseminate information. Today library trends are changing fast and automation activities are climbing up. Further, ICT have enhanced the variety and accessibility to library collections and services to break the barriers of location and time. Some library users are adopting electronic habits, making increasing use of the new ICT including computers, Internet, Web, Intranet, Extranet and other technologies. As a result, library users are placing new demands on their libraries. The academic library finds itself in a time of tremendous challenge but it is also a time of boundless opportunity to use ICT creatively to enhance service delivery to the user. The aim of this paper is to highlight components of ICT in libraries, ICT based user services and ICT skills for Librarians.
