A STUDY OF MENTAL HEALTH OF KASTURBA GANDHI BALIKA VIDYALAYAS TEACHERS

Abstract

Health is not merely the absence of diseases rather healthy state of physical, social and mental well-being. Mental health is well-defined as including the behavioral and emotional areas of health. It, also, denotes the capabilities of an individual, a group and the environment to cooperate with others in different ways that develops the feelings of contentment. Healthy teachers support healthy practices and behaviors among students. Teachers are working as facilitators for schools and pioneers to create classroom environment, in which the students can develop the capacities for their bright future. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India has a scheme for started of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidalayas (KGBV) with boarding facilities for girls belonging predominantly to the Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs)and Minorities in the educationally backward areas of our country. Five Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidalayas in favour of Mewat School Society opened in all blocks like Nuh, Nagina, Tauru, Punhana and Ferozpur Jhirka of district Mewat (Haryana). The present research is an effort to analyze the mental health of the teachers who are working in the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidalayas (KGBVs) of Mewat district (Haryana). Positive Mental Health Inventory (PMHI) by Dr. C. D. Agashe and Dr. R. D. Helode (2008) was administrated for this purpose. Results revealed that the mental health of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidalayas (KGBVs) teachers is not as much sound.
