Abstract

A strong, independent and well-organized judiciary plays a vital role in the democratic system of Government. It is charged with the duty of preventing arbitrary use of governmental authority and safeguarding the rights and liberties of citizens. Under the federal form of Government judiciary plays the additional role as the guardian of the Constitution. Our Judicial System is a gift of history. It has descended on us from the British period. The British system of judiciary was characterized by the rule of law, implying the principle of supremacy of law and equal treatment to all before law.
