The concept of ‘Third World’ is a projected articulation in social science discourse that reinforces essentialist categories. Such a statement is not groundbreaking in any way, as debates surrounding ‘Third World’ are not at all new. Then, what is the value in discussing the implications of the term? The insinuations, the stereotypes, what it perpetuates, the casted inferiority. Why are there accusations of essentialism?
