Abstract

This purpose of this study is to evaluate the involvement of IMF in low income countries and to study the impact of IMF programmes on health and education spending. This research provides valuable information regarding the representation of developing countries in IMF. IMF is governed by a 24-member Executive Board which represents 184 countries. Although often prized as a small and efficient decision-making body, the Board represents some countries more effectively than others.. IMF programmes have a modest positive impact on health and education spending. A new trianzgular'division of authority' among the IMF, the World Bank and the World Trade Organisation is emerging. IMF still has to play a major role in managing international finance in a global economy.
