Drawing on interviews with white middle-class mothers, this article examines the ways in which mothering involves practices and identities which are classed, raced and gendered. In particular, it focuses on the construction and articulation of middle -classiness with whiteness. The article examines the women’s descriptions ofhow they constructed social networks as mothers, chose schools for their children and planned their after-school activities. It argues that these activities involved in being mothers and bringing up children can be understood as per formative of race, class and gender. That is, practices of mothering are implicated in repeating and re-inscribing classed and raced discourses.

एक व्यक्ति के लिए काम की अच्छी से अच्छी दशायें, सामाजिक सम्मान एवं प्रतिष्ठा, उत्तम वेतन, मनवांछित स्थान पर नियुक्ति होने के बावजूद उसे वह संतोष प्राप्त नहीं होता है जो किसी सामान्य योग्यता रखने वाले किसी दूसरे व्यक्ति को कम सुविधाजनक अवस्थाओं और कम वेतन में ही प्राप्त हो जाता है। इसका अभिप्राय यह है कि संतुष्टि एक आन्तरिक गुण है वाह्य नहीं। इसका सम्बन्ध मनुष्य के हृदय से होता है। ऐसे अनेक व्यक्ति होते है जो श्रेष्ठतम अवस्थाओं में भी असन्तुष्ट दिखायी देते हैं और इसके विपरीत ऐसे भी अनेक व्यक्ति होते है जो प्रतिकूल परिस्थितियों में भी अपने कार्य से सन्तुष्ट नजर आते हैं। लेकिन इसके बावजूद इस तथ्य को भी झुठलाया नहीं जा सकता है कि संतुष्टि अथवा सन्तोष की भावना के मूल में भी कुछ प्रवृत्तिमूलक और भौतिक परिस्थितियाँ होती है।

Indian banking sector historically passed through five stages: pre-independence, post-independence, prenationalization, nationalization and post-liberalization stages. In all these stages, other than the last stage, marketing was always considered not to be a banker’s cup of tea. But today, it is considered to be an integral management function in the banking sector. India’s banking sector has made rapid strides in reforming and aligning itself to the new competitive business environment. Traditionally, Indian banks have not really paid adequate attention to marketing and market research. The paper focuses on the recent macro and micro trends in the marketing of the banking sector. The paper also develops the conceptual frame work in the form of model relating banks with each touch point of customer exposure. Finally, the paper ends with the conclusion that marketing services are not only for the survival but also needed for improving the efficiency of banking services and building a loyal customer base.
