Abstract

The origin of cricket is unknown as there are many beliefs regarding the etymology of the word. Some people believe it to be originated from a French word 'Crequet1', meaning a Club while others think it to be derived from an English word 'Crycc'. , which means “stick,” and, in its rude form, resembled the 13th century game known as club-ball. Cricket evolved in England in the 18th century, mainly because of the interest of great landowners who tried their skills on a field of play with their tenants and the local peasantry. Records show that teams from Kent and London played with each other in 1719, and that Kent and Sussex met in 1728.

The complexity of HIV/AIDS related stigma is often cited as a primary reason for the limited response to this pervasive phenomenon that refers to prejudice, discounting, discrediting and discrimination directed at persons perceived to have AIDS or HIV, as well as their partners, friends, families and communities. Although stigma is considered a major barrier to effective responses to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, stigma reduction efforts are relegated to the bottom of AIDS program Priorities. HIV/AIDS has had a devastating impact at individual, household and community levels. AIDS has challenged several aspects of contemporary social life and conventional approaches to health care. The social and medical responses to diseases have probably not been challenged so intensely for a long time. Social implications of HIV/AIDS are perhaps the serious most threat and hurdle to human development. Stigma profoundly affects the lives of people with HIV/ AIDS. In the present study, we focus to identify the impact of society on HIV positive men and women clients living in Delhi. We also explore the impact of stigma on health and healthcare among HIV positive clients in our sample. We discuss implications of HIV related stigma for the mental and physical health of HIV Positive women and men and suggestions for possible interventions to address the stigma among the society.

Abstract

In the last few decades human security has evolved as an international issue, affecting all the countries worldwide. All the nations, organizations, regional as well as internationals have taken strong measures in order to cater the issue of human security. One of the measures taken being establishment of regional and sub-regional organizations, by the Central Asian countries. But the regional cooperation is working on a very slow place, leading to the conclusion that there are many conflicting interests and disagreements, which exist between the Central Asian neighboring countries. Robert Keohane has very aptly pointed out that cooperation between neighboring nations cannot be defined in terms of absence of any conflict between them, but as a process which uses this conflict to initiate mutual adjustment. Since 2001, from the time of removal from power of the Taliban, theatrically many multilateral efforts have been made but hardly anything is done in practice. On the other hand, bilateral relations have developed and worked effectively among other Central Asian neighbours and have provided with considerable number of examples of partnership and solidarity in promoting human security across the entire Central Asia(Keohane 2005) .

Abstract

Fiction is thus the expression of the most intimate social consciousness in which it is born and evolves. As a creative process, fiction registers the creative evolution of the society itself. Thus, the evolution of fiction and the evolution of the consciousness of the societal apparatus are simultaneous and intermeshed. Indo-Anglian novel, right since its beginning, has inextricable bonds with the socio-political milieu where in it took birth and has been written since. The emerging national political consciousness in India which was slowly permeating to the grass-roots has been faithfully mirrored in Indo-Anglian fiction. The partition of the Indian subcontinent was an event of such a great magnitude that profoundly affected human emotions and values to such a great extent that all creative arts and artists have come under its influence. They have been performed and produced to educate and appeal the audience about partition. But it is fiction that provides vast canvass to the creative genius to deal with the very complex theme of partition and this genre has attracted writers of all Indian language.

What is the underlying truth however of the much debated, criticized and even appreciated, relation between the media and the female section of the society. Has the development, the openness and the globalization, turned the weaker sex in to a powerful equal? Or has the stereotypical projection and co modification of her sexuality made her more vulnerable? Is the education and awareness making it easy for her to cope up with the pressure of media jobs? Or does the gender bias still exists? Do the family and the society recongnise her as an asset? Or is she facing exploitation at work and at home? Has the media helped her gain power to call the shots? Or does she still find herself at the cross roads?

Abstract

Dividends are payments made by a corporation to its shareholder members. It is the portion of corporate profits paid out to stockholders. On the other hand, retained earnings refers to the portion of net income which is retained by the corporation rather than distributed to its owners as dividends. Similarly, if the corporation takes a loss, then that loss is retained and called variously retained losses, accumulated losses or accumulated deficit. Retained earnings and losses are cumulative from year to year with losses offsetting earnings. Many corporations retain a portion of their earnings and pay the remainder as a dividend. A dividend is allocated as a fixed amount per share. Therefore, a shareholder receives a dividend in proportion to their shareholding. Retained earnings are shown in the shareholder equity section in the company's balance sheet–the same as its issued share capital.

Abstract

What is our mistake? “We are also human beings. We are like all others. We are not irresponsible. We are educated, have wife and children and earning. Men getting attracted towards young girls during their youth are accepted by the society. When we look at women we do not get any inspiration but when we see another man we start liking him and our life is with him only. We get a feeling that if he is with us we can achieve anything. Why like this….we do not know. The scientific research done to know this has failed. Even though it is not our mistake and we are not harming anyone, we are facing tremendous discrimination worldwide. We are criminals according to IPC 377. Under this section we can also be punished with life time imprisonment for having unnatural sex. Why so much opposition? Homosexuality was proved during the time of Vatsayan. Sexual sculptures of men and women were carved on walls of temples…..after that why they are treated as sin? Why they are seen as doing business in dark? At least now the reason for coming out and speaking is HIV/AIDS. If not for this perhaps this context would not have arisen even today. Is it for good or bad till will decide? We are firm in one thing. Today we came out openly to be able to live and there should not be any harm/loss because of us and with a hope that people understand us. The desire to live along with you as citizens is making us speak like this today.”

Regarding to that for more development of sugarcane sector, the role of sugarcane in agriculture development at regional levels should be known. Therefore, the main objective of the study is to study the sugarcane cultivation and its relation with agricultural development with the reference of some development indicators at regional level. Using the recently available secondary data, the simple descriptive statistics, decomposition analysis and Composite Development Index method have been used. The result of this paper revealed that sugarcane cultivation has shown a movement from the sub-tropical region to tropical region in India. There is no much changes had happened in district-wise level of sugarcane development in Maharashtra during the period 1998-99 to 2010-11. The contribution of area expansion is relatively more important in increasing sugarcane production as compared to productivity improvement in India and Maharashtra. Western region is much ahead than other regions of Maharashtra in terms of overall agricultural development. Therefore, the government should take more initiatives to reduce the regional agriculture imbalance in terms of sugarcane production and to make it sustain.

Abstract

The Indian freedom struggle resulted in the creation of two new nations with the departure of the British in August 1947. The Muslim majority provinces of Punjab and Bengal were divided, with West Punjab along with the Sindh, North West Frontier Province (NWFP) and Baluchistan, and East Bengal forming West and East Pakistan respectively, and India in the middle and in the North East. This partition of 1947 resulted in a massive and violent transfer of population as Sikhs and Hindus moved into India and Muslims fled to Pakistan. As a result, a million people were left dead, at least seventy five thousand women were raped, mutilated and abandoned, about twelve million people were displaced and rendered homeless, countless homes, properties, families were devastated as new national borders were drawn , ruthlessly wiping away the old existing cultural , ethnic and geographical entities. This issue of the Indian Partition of 1947 has been selected for this study. Hence forth it will be addressed simply as the partition. The present study focuses only on this partition of the Western frontier and not on the partition of Pakistan and Bengal.

Abstract

This paper deals with cost-benefit analysis of programmable logical control (PLC) system, which are generally used in the modern industries. In this model, we have considered that system is basically three parts i.e. mechanical part (M), software (S) and control processing unit (H) and two repairman. One is ordinary repairman and other expert repairman. Initially, ordinary repairman starts the repair of failed unit, if he is not able to repair the failed unit then he will discuss with the expert repairman. The failure time distributions of components are taken exponential whereas the repair time distribution are general. Using regenerative point technique, important measures of system effectiveness are obtained. The results are also analyzed through graphs in a particular case when repair time distributions are also exponential.
