Abstract

Abstract: Morbidity is the occurrence of ill-health that is the effects of various diseases on the population or it can be defined as the “disease load”. . It is derived from the literatures that morbidity patterns are used generally for assessing the burden of disease. India has achieved significant gains in life expectancy in the last few decades but the overall health conditions appear to have worsened as it has very high prevalence of morbidity with considerable inter-state differences. The morbidity prevalence rate in India by age group shows ‘J’ shaped relationship between age and morbidity, which indicates that the children and the people in the higher age groups are more susceptible to the prevalence of morbidity (Kannan, et. al., 1991; Shariff, 1995; Gumber, 1997). There are many factors which influence morbidity condition and variation across states is seen in morbidity pattern. Variation in acute and chronic ailments is also seen more among women.

Abstract

Abstract: The National Rural Health Mission has envisioned a change in the public health system marching towards an affordable and equitable health care system in the country. It has envisaged for community ownership in the program and volunteerism from amongst community members to attain their participation in the planning process. The framework for the same entails that AWW has been engrossed in ICDS and has not been able to act as change agent. Henceforth a woman volunteer from the community called ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) would fill her role. The major difference between an ASHA and AWW would come in terms of ASHA being a volunteer from the community, who would act in close coordination with a support system (PRI, AWW and ANM). She is supposed to play immense role in village health plan along with PRI members and other stakeholders of the community. However the incentivised nature of the program, stringent monitoring for fulfilling coverage of vertical programs, the emphasis on skill building of ASHA in the training modules specifically for functioning as community mobiliser for JSY, immunization, family planning has restricted her role only to a health worker at periphery. This article discusses conceptualisation of ASHA as a volunteer activist and agent of communitization viz a viz her role as a health worker.

This paper attempts to analyse the role of language in objectifying women thereby dictating women’s position and disposition. In the backdrop of rising heinous acts against women, the study examines the function of language and intends to bring societal changes to propagate genderless language in English. Further, it examines how hostile attitudes shape among individuals by exploring the pyramid of Abuse. Objectification or dehumanization of women appears in many forms, existing in varying degrees across all cultures and countries. In order to prevent infliction caused on women, many organizations and institutions are working to dig into the roots to find the origin that shapes the form of violence. The pyramid in the picture below shows the formation of violence. It is adapted from the work by the centre for the study of sport in society by North-Eastern University, Boston, America, and further modified by Haven uproot. Increasingly there are activists and researchers who are trying to draw attention to the lack of food security, and mounting an ongoing Campaign for the Right to Food. Linked to this have been the earlier campaign to make education a fundamental right and the more recent campaign to guarantee employment to landless labourers.

Abstract Universal declaration of human rights adopted by general assembly recognizes the inherent dignity and equal human rights and fundamental freedom to all without any kind of discrimination such as caste, colour, race sex, religion, political, social, economic, birth or other status. Under human rights law the violation of human rights is a big abuse of human rights. Ensuring accountability for human rights violation is a core obligation of states. This principle has been continuously challenged in the case of women’s human rights. Some people justify violation of women’s human rights by placing precedence on cultural and traditional values. Cultural values rooted in unequal power relations between women and men become justification for the systematic denial of civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights. Global culture discriminates against women and denies them equal rights with men. Every year around the global an increasing number of women are reported killed in the name of “honour”.
